Vocabulary makes up 25% of your marks in IELTS exam and also plays a crucial part in IELTS Listening & Writing. Let’s explore some effective strategies to build your vocabulary for the IELTS test.
Read & Listen
Most words are learnt from context. Pick a TV show, radio, podcast, magazine or book that interests you. Pay close attention to words you don’t know & how they are used.
Search Unusual Words & Maintain a Journal
Look up any new word you aren't sure of. Jot down the meaning, collocations, synonyms, example sentences, antonyms and pronunciation for each word in a journal. Review this journal regularly to reinforce your learning.
Use Memory Tricks or Flashcards
Review the new words after 10 minutes –one day – 4 days – one week – two weeks – one month – two months. Also, use apps like Quizlet to make digital flashcards. Regularly test yourself to retain the new vocabulary.
Learn Collocations
